Jean Genies
Marion is a painter and mixed media artist who loves working with traditional materials such as oils, watercolour, textiles, pen and ink. Her work explores colour and emotion through our relationships with nature, technology, ‘fast’ fashion and the environment – to create images that draw the viewer in, and invite deeper reflection on the world around us.
As a freelance artist, she has had a diverse and collaborative career which began 30 years ago as an embroidery and print designer for major companies, then later, teaching and designing art activities within diverse educational, healthcare and community settings.
In 2004, she set up a design business with her husband Rhys (www.webber-design.com) and discovered a passion for participatory art when they relocated to Wales 20 years ago.
Alongside working as a freelance artist and tutor, she volunteers at The Place, Newport with a textile craftivism project which she set up in 2022 called ‘Jean Genies: Making Magic with denim.
